On behalf of Local 541, I want to extend a thank you to every one who has attended our first-ever hybrid AGM on March 6, 2025, at Cosmo Music Store, just across the street from PDOC. We had 3 very important guests in attendance: Lisa Prescott and Julie Nanquil, our CEIU ON National Vice Presidents, and Amit Tandon, our National Union Representative. They were able to provide insights and let us know more about bargaining and how we as a union remain stronger than ever.
Now let’s talk about the key highlights from the AGM.
Finances and Budget
The 2024 Financial Statement was presented, with opportunities for the members to ask questions before finally being approved.
A new 2025 budget was proposed and approved. Some highlights from the budget include: $3000 dedicated to Local 541 Women’s Committee, $5000 to continue funding Food for Thought events, $4000 to support Social Causes, and $5000 for Equity events/commitments.
As part of a growing measure to keep the Local in a stronger financial position, a motion was raised and passed to put $80,000 into a 1-year GIC by the end of April 2025.
Other Key takeaways
- There is a National Remote Works Campaign. Please join the campaign and showcase solidarity on this issue.
- PSAC recently held their national bargaining conference and priority picks were uncontested.
- Local 541 Women’s Committee is hosting a bake sale on March 28, 2025 and a charity drive on April 2. Check out our events page for more details!
Once again, I thank everyone who has supported Local 541 and your continued support as we enter full steam ahead into bargaining season, and what the future of remote works holds. We will continue to provide updates as much as can regarding bargaining, work-related issues, and any new developments.
