This International Women’s Day, Local 541’s Women’s Committee would like to share resources for all our colleagues who identify as women. We hope this gives you a hub to easily access your rights and view resources that promote your wellbeing.

Women’s Rights at Work

Parental Leave

The following relevant Articles in the PA Collective Agreement outline each provision:

Article 36 – medical appointments for pregnant employees
Article 28 – maternity leave without pay
Article 39 – maternity-related reassignment or leave
Article 40 – parental leave provisions

Caregiving Leave

If you are in receipt of or awaiting EI compassionate care benefits, you are entitled to caregiving leave without pay.

Time spent on leave counts toward severance pay, vacation leave, and pay increments.

See Article 42 of the PA Collective Agreement for more information.

Flexible Work

Employees may request a different schedule than the standard five-day work week (subject to manager approval/operational requirements).

An employer also cannot reprimand you just because you made a written request for a flexible work arrangement.

Workplace Harassment

This Policy aims to prevent workplace harassment and violence, to respond without delay to occurrences, and to support victims.
