Throughout their history in Canada, Asians have dealt with many types of exclusion. But with that exclusion, came activism and advocacy. I’m going to take you through the beginnings of that story by discussing discussing how Asian labour activism shifted Canadian history.
This Jewish Heritage Month, I want to highlight the tremendous contributions Jewish Canadians have had on Canadian labour. The Jewish community, in particular, played an incredibly impactful role in fighting against discrimination and building the human rights movement in Canada.
Local 541 kicked off the end of fiscal with a well awaited AGM hosted by MC Elisa P. at The Host, a South Asian restaurant in Richmond Hill, with special guests CEIU NVPs in attendance!
Local 541 and a few of its members attended a lecture on Black Reconstructions: Race, Educational History and the Problem of the Archive given by the Professor of Education and African and African American Studies at Harvard University. Local 541 empowers and invests in women. For International Women’s Day, we hosted a virtual event highlighting two impactful women at PDOC. We also announced the Women’s Committee and Education Reimbursement Fund!
Local 541 celebrated its first-ever annual Black History Month event.
