Black Women’s History Month

Did You Know?

April is International Black Women’s History Month! Established in 2016 in the city of Atlanta to uplift and support the achievements of Black and minority women, and to build understanding and awareness of the contributions of Black women to the world.

Black women have always been the backbone of society, empowering our neighbourhoods with strength despite circumstances that challenge our Blackness.

The sisterhood between Black women continues to grow tighter and so does our village at CEIU and PSAC.

I see myself here, “Phenomenal woman, That’s me.” (- Maya Angelou) Do you?

My story? Still being written. Where I go? LIMITLESS!

We need to be less humble about our achievements and our incredible selves! A speaker once stated other people would have a long list of all their achievements and we just think about ours, afraid to “unhumble” ourselves enough to show n’ tell.

If we intend to leave legacy, then …LEAVE IT!! The next generation is watching, I am sure we don’t want them to believe they need to be more demure than the next person, we need to make our achievements shine like we are the ‘first one’.

Favourite Quote: “Comparison is a thief of joy!” – Theodore Roosevelt

My name is Camar Cameron and I am a mother, partner, sister, daughter and an ultimate warrior spawn from royalty. The world knows me as Cece and I am embracing my legacy to be my authentic self, in all spaces and not present myself through white washed lenses to skew my Black experience in Canada.

I joined the union because I know that “the union makes us strong” and that I alone cannot carve out the legacy for members that look like me. I am seeking consensus on our different priorities and presenting a mindset that there is room for more than one.

This is just the beginning for me, but I know when you build a road, many will follow. Let the building continue…
