Local 541 empowers & invests in women ✨
For International Women’s Day, we hosted a virtual event where two impactful women at PDOC, Service Managers Irene Supnet and Christine Sayed, gave very heartfelt and inspiring talks about how motherhood made them value the importance of a work-life balance.
I know I’m not the only one who got choked up. I could see it in the eyes of all the women in the call just how much impact both of their experiences had on us (thank you by the way for turning your cameras on, using our MS Teams Background, and repping some purple 💜).
To Irene and Christine, thank you so much 💜
Hearing from two very well-respected women in leadership roles talk about the importance of fostering the wellbeing of women at work is the core mission of the Local 541 Women’s Committee.
Local 541’s own Equity Rep Deneka Green also spoke to remind us of the importance of inclusivity and safe spaces. She also shared some great photos of the International Women’s March in Toronto (peep Mayor Olivia Chow holding up the CEIU Ontario Regional Women’s Committee banner 👀).Read more about the Toronto Women's Day March from both Deneka (541 Equity Rep) and Elisa (541 Vice President).

We look to these inspiring women and learn from their experiences.
Irene, Christine, and Deneka all stressed how integral inclusivity and safe spaces are for the wellbeing of all those who identify as women.
As your Chair and Vice-Chair respectively, Sarah Sookwa and I are establishing Local 541’s first-ever Women’s Committee that is committed to these values. We are also implementing an education reimbursement fund and mentorship program to invest in and foster women at work.
If you’re interested in being a part of meaningful change for women at PDOC, the Women’s Committee is looking for members!
As well, congratulations to all 4 members who won a spa day gift card!
The Women’s Committee hopes to provide more benefits to all those who identify as women at PDOC 💜.
